International Acceleration Programme “Cybersecurity Ventures” for INCIBE

Design, development and delivery of an international programme to drive the growth of Spain’s cybersecurity industry.

DESCRIPCIÓN

The National Cybersecurity Institute of Spain (INCIBE) commissioned Cink Venturing to design, develop and manage an acceleration programme.

Since 2014, INCIBE has been working to promote the growth of companies in the cybersecurity industry and to support the creation of new entrepreneurial projects. Since 2017, it has run the Cybersecurity Ventures International Acceleration Programme, aimed at the development of startups specialising in cybersecurity.

The programme was promoted in collaboration with the Regional Government of Castilla y León, through the Institute for Business Competitiveness of Castilla y León (ICE), and León City Council, through the León Institute for Development, Training and Employment (ILDEFE), under a collaboration agreement signed between these institutions.

In the third edition of Cybersecurity Ventures, INCIBE entrusted Cink Venturing with the design, development and delivery of the programme.

OPORTUNIDAD

For this third edition of the Cybersecurity Ventures International Acceleration Programme, the client set a clear goal: to turn it into a magnet for national and international talent for cybersecurity companies incorporated in Spain.

The programme, based on the Lean Startup methodology, was required to achieve the following objectives:

  • Foster the development of new technology-based companies in the cybersecurity sector.
  • Improve the business competitiveness of participating companies.
  • Boost entrepreneurial cybersecurity talent through training, mentoring and networking.
  • Contribute to Spain’s national cybersecurity industry strategy.
  • Position INCIBE as the national reference centre for cybersecurity.

METODOLOGÍA

1. Outreach phase

To attract viable projects to take part in Cybersecurity Ventures, and being aware of the challenge involved in identifying cybersecurity projects with such specific requirements, Cink Venturing launched a targeted outreach campaign to build a qualified database.

On the basis of an exhaustive, well-defined plan, a complete action roadmap was implemented to identify proposals of interest for subsequent analysis. The main actions included:

  • Online outreach through Cink’s own channels to segment and reach the target audience.
  • Partnerships with educational institutions and technology companies to promote the call for applications.
  • Prospecting for innovation projects in specialised media and institutional portals.

2. Evaluation phase

Applying the stringent criteria set out in the call, and following highly focused outreach, Cink Venturing implemented an evaluation process to ensure that projects met the client’s requirements.

As a result, 39 candidate projects applied, of which 10 were selected as finalists by the evaluation committee to participate in the Acceleration Programme, once compliance with all criteria had been verified.

3. Acceleration phase

Following a further eligibility review carried out by Cink Venturing, the 10 finalist projects moved into the acceleration phase, where they accessed services including training, personalised mentoring and networking activities.

 

PERSONALISED ROADMAP

  • Individual analysis and diagnosis of each project.
  • Definition of key milestones.
  • Design of a tailored acceleration plan.

MENTORING

  • Development of the business idea.
  • Ongoing support throughout the entire programme.
  • 40 hours of one-to-one mentoring per project.

TRAINING

  • 85 hours of in-person training.
  • Webinar sessions for online training.
  • Access to a catalogue of more than 150 courses.

NETWORKING

  • Dedicated networking event with investors, potential partners and prospective customers.
  • 89 in-person meetings.
  • 72 online meetings.

IMPACTO

The results of the programme show a high level of engagement from participants, who particularly valued the opportunity to get to know INCIBE and connect with other professionals from the entrepreneurial ecosystem. Highlights include:
